AmeriCorps programs are, by far, the largest component of the national service network. Often described as “the domestic Peace Corps,” AmeriCorps engages over 80,000 Americans each year in intensive service in the areas of education, public safety, health, and the environment. Between 2001 and 2008, Dr. Fetissenko served as Associate Director, Interim Executive Director, Program Evaluator, and Organizational Development Consultant at Rhode Island Service Alliance, a state commission for national and community service, where he administered a statewide portfolio of AmeriCorps and Learn & Serve America programs focused on youth development, pre-K-12 education, public health, environmental education, and the arts.¬†Several initiatives developed by the commission and its partners became award-winning national models, and the state consistently received one of the highest per capita levels of competitive national service funding in the country.
